Master Tempo, a must know tool to become a better DJ

Today I want to start a series of quick tips for upcoming deejays out there! WHY YOUR MIX SUCKS 😂 In this first episode we talk about a function of music players and deejay software that’s usually overlooked: the MASTER TEMPO a really cool feature that can dramatically improve the way your mixes sounds!

Master tempo is one of the must know tools for a modern deejay! It allows you to speed up or slow down a track when you need to beat-match tracks that have different BPMs, without distorting the sound of them.

Did you ever noticed that when you speed up a track with the tempo fader, you get that noisy chimpmunks voice? That’s what happens when you don’t use this neat feature (also known as Pitch Modulator and Re-Pitcher)!

If you don’t know what Master Tempo does, you should learn and start using it as soon of NOW!

Where you can find the Master Tempo in modern CDJs

On Pioneer CDJs you will find the label “Master Tempo” on a button right before the tempo fader, extremely easy to find. On DJ softwares (like Traktor, Rekordbox, Serato, Virtual DJ) and Denon music players you will find the Master Tempo looking for the symbol of the ♪ (note), it’s usually near the part of the screen where you find the BPM of the track you are playing.

Is this feature useful while deejaying?

Trust me when I say that if you are some sort of open format Deejay, or if you use to play music from different genres, Master Tempo will be one of the most useful things you can use to improve the way your mix will sound to your audience. For example if you try to mix my track Light (out for Revealed Recordings) with Halls (out for UFO Recordz) you will have a far great mix when using Master Tempo, since the tracks have different BPM and you have to slow down or speed up one of the tracks if you want to beat match them.

Tell me what you think about it!

I posted about Master Tempo on my Instagram Profile, send me a comment here and let me know what do you think about this CDJ player feature
